Ajax striker Chuba Akpom has once again reiterated his eagerness to represent Nigeria at the international level. The 29-year-old, born in London to Nigerian parents, initially played for England at youth level but made the decision to switch allegiance in 2019.
Despite being eligible for the Super Eagles for years, Akpom has yet to receive a call-up. Speaking to Oma Sports, he expressed his continued commitment.
“I always give 100%. I’ve been waiting since 2019. I switched a long time ago, but if it happens, it happens. I’ll just keep working hard,” he said.
Akpom also addressed the perception that players only opt for Nigeria when England is no longer an option.
“It’s not about being unable to play for England. Many of us didn’t get the chance to play for Nigeria from a young age. We grew up in England, played through their youth ranks, and that’s how it happened,” he explained.
For now, Akpom remains hopeful that his performances at Ajax will eventually earn him a place in the Super Eagles squad.
