Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed confidence that Real Madrid will once again claim the Champions League title this season and assured fans that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will recover from their recent struggles.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who defeated Borussia Dortmund in last season’s Champions League final, have had a challenging campaign this year.

With only nine points from six games, Madrid currently sit 20th in the Champions League standings, four points short of an automatic spot in the knockout stage.

Manchester City has also faced difficulties in Europe, with their performances leaving them in danger of needing a play-off to advance.

Domestically, City’s title defense has faltered as well, with a 1-1 draw against Everton on Boxing Day putting them 14 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo offered reassurance for both teams. On City’s struggles, he said: “Well, in football, you never know what will happen. Teams go through difficult and good times. City are having a tough moment now, but I’m 100% sure they will bounce back”.

“For example, people say Madrid is having a bad season, but they’re two points ahead of Barcelona. I don’t understand why people criticize so much. Every team has ups and downs, but big teams always return to their best.”

Ronaldo further backed Madrid to triumph in the Champions League, citing their legacy at the Santiago Bernabéu: “If I had to bet, I’d bet on Madrid to win the Champions League again. The Bernabéu is different—teams fear playing there. History shows that Madrid always comes back.”

When asked how City can turn their form around, Ronaldo offered a pragmatic approach: “Say less and show more. I’d talk privately with the team and address the issues directly. Big players and big teams are smart enough to identify the problem. Guardiola is a brilliant coach, and I’m confident City will be back to their best soon.”

Ronaldo also highlighted Madrid’s ability to adapt, mentioning key players like Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo: “Madrid has faced challenges this season with some adjustments in the squad, but players like Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo will step up. Madrid always comes back stronger.”

As both clubs face crucial moments in their campaigns, Ronaldo’s words serve as a reminder of their resilience and ability to perform on the biggest stage.
