Didi Hamann believes Arsenal’s title aspirations are hindered by their lack of a top-class striker and suggests Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez could be the solution.

The Gunners face Tottenham in a vital Premier League clash following consecutive defeats. They lost to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and were eliminated by Manchester United in the FA Cup. Arsenal’s struggles in front of goal during these matches have highlighted their need for a reliable striker.

Kai Havertz, currently leading Arsenal’s attack, has failed to impress, scoring just 14 goals in 51 appearances last season and continuing his inconsistent form. Hamann argues that Arsenal require a forward with physicality and pace to bolster their offense, pointing to Nunez as a potential fit.

Liverpool signed Nunez from Benfica in 2022 for £85m, but the Uruguayan has yet to fully deliver, scoring 37 goals in 122 appearances, with just two league goals this season. Hamann admits Nunez’s finishing remains inconsistent, but he believes the forward’s pace, physical presence, and ability to create space could revolutionize Arsenal’s attack.

“With a striker like Nunez, players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli could thrive. His ability to stretch defenses would open up opportunities for Arsenal’s wingers,” Hamann explained.

Arsenal’s chances in the Premier League depend on improving their offensive presence, Hamann added. Without a dominant striker, he says, winning the league will be nearly impossible, although a cup victory remains feasible.

While Nunez is criticized for his erratic finishing, Hamann insists the Liverpool forward has the potential to be unplayable if he improves his consistency. Robbie Fowler, however, has expressed doubts about Nunez, stating the player does not fit Liverpool’s system despite his work ethic.

Nunez’s struggles continue, with his last Premier League goal coming in November. Whether Arsenal will make a move for the forward or find another solution remains to be seen, but their need for a reliable striker is clear.
