Dennis Bergkamp, often hailed as one of Arsène Wenger’s greatest signings, has hinted at the possibility of returning to Arsenal in a coaching role.
The Dutch legend, who spent 11 years at the club and won three Premier League titles, established himself as one of the best players of his generation, including being part of the historic ‘Invincibles’ team.
Signed for £7.5 million in 1995 from Inter Milan, Bergkamp was a key figure in Arsenal’s success under Wenger, securing three FA Cups and playing a pivotal role in the team’s journey to the 2006 Champions League final.
His technical brilliance and vision earned him a place as one of the Premier League’s finest foreign players.
Since retiring in 2011, Bergkamp has taken on various roles, including assistant manager at Ajax, and even explored the idea of purchasing an English football club, with Arsenal being mentioned in rumors about a potential takeover.
While he initially declined a scouting position at Arsenal after retirement, Bergkamp has now expressed an interest in returning to the club.
Speaking at the FWA’s Tribute Night in London, Bergkamp shared that with his children grown, he now has more freedom to explore new opportunities.
“If something interesting to me were to come along, I’d like to do something like that,” he said, hinting at a possible coaching return.
While Arsenal has repeatedly challenged for the Premier League title in recent years, they have yet to win since 2004, with Manchester City and Liverpool currently leading the charge.
Bergkamp remains hopeful about their prospects, saying, “I really hope Arsenal can win a trophy this season,” acknowledging the team’s close calls in recent years.
He also praised Mikel Arteta’s leadership, stating, “If Arteta can get more quality and belief from the squad, then who knows what might happen!” As Arsenal aims to break their title drought, the prospect of Bergkamp’s return could be just the spark they need.
