Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that star striker Alexander Isak will sit out the FA Cup third-round clash against Bromley due to an injury sustained during their recent Carabao Cup semi-final win against Arsenal.

The Swedish forward, in scintillating form this season, has amassed 19 goals and five assists in 28 appearances for club and country.

His performances have propelled Newcastle to fifth place in the Premier League and brought them within touching distance of a Carabao Cup final, following their 2-0 victory at the Emirates, where Isak opened the scoring.

Fans were alarmed when Isak was substituted after 65 minutes in that match, sparking fears of a severe setback. However, Howe has reassured supporters that the 25-year-old’s injury is not serious.

“We think he’s pretty good,” Howe said during his pre-match press conference. “He’s seeing his physio and resting, but he’s in a good place. It doesn’t look like a serious injury from the initial assessments.”

Howe explained that Isak would have been involved against Bromley under normal circumstances but will instead be rested to prepare for Newcastle’s demanding fixture schedule, which includes Premier League games against Wolves, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Fulham, along with the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal.

Transfer rumors have surrounded Isak, with the striker valued at £150 million and linked to clubs like Arsenal. However, Howe dismissed any speculation of outgoings in January. “This isn’t a month to destabilize the group. The harmony here is really strong,” he emphasized.

As Newcastle prepares for a packed calendar, Howe’s cautious approach with Isak underscores the striker’s importance to their ambitions in both domestic and cup competitions.

Fans will be eager to see the Swedish sensation return to action as the Magpies continue their push for silverware and a top-four Premier League finish.
