Former Nigerian international Efe Sodje has urged Nottingham Forest to allow Super Eagles defender Ola Aina to join Manchester City if the Premier League champions show interest. Aina has been in excellent form, playing a key role in Forest’s strong season, with the team sitting third in the league standings.

His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has made him an essential figure at the City Ground. However, his performances have also caught the attention of Manchester City, who are searching for a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.

Speaking with Brila FM, Sodje emphasized that Aina would be a first-choice player at City, given their rebuilding phase. He believes the 28-year-old’s adaptability and experience make him a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad.

“What City are doing now, they’re rebuilding,” Sodje said. “If they come for him, he’ll be the first choice. Let him go.” His statement highlights Aina’s potential to thrive at one of the world’s biggest clubs if given the opportunity.

Aina has been one of Forest’s standout players this season, playing over 2,500 minutes across all competitions. His defensive contributions include 30 interceptions, ranking him joint-26th in the Premier League, while also helping his side keep 12 clean sheets.

He delivered one of his best performances in Forest’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City, winning four ground duels, making three clearances, and recovering the ball four times. His ability to shine against elite opposition makes him an appealing target for City.

Beyond club football, Aina remains a key player for Nigeria. He has been included in the Super Eagles’ final 23-man squad for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

With Manchester City looking for defensive reinforcements and Aina proving his quality in the Premier League, a potential move could benefit both the player and the club. It remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest will stand in his way.
