Known for his skills and achievements on the field, the 36-year-old now aims to nurture young talents in his new role.
Uzoenyi, who helped Nigeria claim the 2013 AFCON title under the guidance of the late Coach Stephen Keshi, enjoyed a decorated playing career.
He contributed to the national team again in 2014, winning a bronze medal at the African Nations Championship and later securing a spot on the Super Eagles squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Throughout his career, Uzoenyi played for multiple clubs, including Rangers, Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, Rennes in France, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town, and Zvijezda 09.
His career highlights include winning the NPFL title twice with Enyimba in 2005 and 2007 and claiming the Federation Cup with them in 2005.
After retiring in 2023, Uzoenyi returned to South Africa to complete his coaching credentials, making his debut as a coach with Rangers International’s youth teams.
Reflecting on his transition, he stated, “I’m already into coaching and leading the U15, U13, and U10 teams at Rangers. It’s a fitting start at my childhood club, focusing on grooming young talents.”
Uzoenyi’s illustrious career also brought him success in South Africa, where he claimed the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title in 2015/2016 with Mamelodi Sundowns and went on to win the CAF Champions League with them in 2016.
Continuing his winning ways, he added another PSL title with Bidvest Wits in the 2016/2017 season.
As Uzoenyi embarks on this new chapter, he remains committed to passing on his knowledge and experience to the younger generation, fostering a new wave of football talent in Nigeria.
