Arsenal urged to sign Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood

Arsenal have been urged to consider an unexpected summer move for Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Mikel Arteta’s side opted against signing a forward in the January transfer window despite injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. However, further setbacks to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli have left Arsenal struggling for attacking depth in the title race.

Both strikers, however, would command hefty transfer fees, and Arsenal will face stiff competition from other European clubs. With that in mind, former Manchester United forward Teddy Sherringham believes the Gunners should consider a more practical option by signing Wood.

Mikel Merino has been filling in up front, but costly dropped points against West Ham and Nottingham Forest have seen the Gunners fall 13 points behind leaders Liverpool. Arsenal are now expected to pursue a world-class striker in the summer, with Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko emerging as prime targets.

The 33-year-old New Zealander has been in top form for Nottingham Forest this season, scoring 18 goals in 27 league appearances and helping his team mount an unexpected push for a top-four finish. Despite turning 34 later this year, Sherringham insists Wood still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

“He’s a young man at 33. I played until I was 41 in the Premier League. He can keep going until he’s 36, 37, no doubt,” Sherringham told Prime Casino. “If I were Arteta, I’d consider breaking the bank for him. He’s a natural goal scorer, a presence in the box, and a player who can occupy defenders.”

Sherringham also suggested that Newcastle United should consider bringing Wood back if they decide to sell Isak for a significant transfer fee this summer. He proposed that Newcastle could reinvest by signing Wood for £20-30 million while cashing in on Isak for a potential £120 million transfer.

With Arsenal in need of reliable goal scorers, Wood’s proven Premier League experience and strong form this season make him an intriguing alternative to their high-profile targets.
