Arsenal’s struggles in front of goal continued as they were held to a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, a result that further weakens their already slim Premier League title hopes. With Liverpool comfortably defeating Newcastle, Arne Slot’s side extended their lead at the top to an imposing 13 points, leaving Arsenal with a mountain to climb.
With several key attackers sidelined, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri was given his third consecutive start. However, his night ended early as Mikel Arteta was forced to substitute him midway through the second half. Despite some frustration from traveling fans, Arteta defended the decision, explaining that Nwaneri had been struggling with cramps since halftime.

“He was cramping from minute 45, so we stretched him as much as we possibly could, but we cannot lose the player,” Arteta said post-match.
Riccardo Calafiori, who came close to scoring when he struck the post in the first half, was also withdrawn at halftime. However, Arteta clarified that the change was purely tactical rather than due to injury.
“He got a yellow in the second minute,” Arteta noted. “He had one or two situations defending Hudson-Odoi, and we couldn’t afford to play with 10 men again.”
Arsenal’s lack of attacking firepower has been a growing concern, with Kai Havertz expected to miss the remainder of the season. However, there is optimism that Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli could return after the international break.

Arteta remained cautious about their availability, stating, “I think so, but let’s see how they evolve in the next few weeks. They’ve been out for a long time, so we’ll have to reintegrate them gradually.”
With Arsenal now out of the FA Cup, they have a brief break before their Champions League last-16 clash against PSV Eindhoven. As their domestic title chase fades, European success could be their best shot at salvaging the season.
