Gianpiero Gasperini praised Ademola Lookman’s transformation after his goal in Atalanta’s dominant 4-0 victory over Juventus at the Allianz Arena. The win kept Atalanta firmly in the Serie A title race, and Gasperini credited Lookman’s growth for the team’s success.

Lookman, who scored Atalanta’s fourth goal, was substituted in the 80th minute and shared a warm embrace with his coach. This moment was notable, considering their recent disagreement following Lookman’s missed penalty against Club Brugge.

Reflecting on their past tension, Gasperini explained that spending almost an entire year together naturally leads to differing opinions. However, he emphasized Lookman’s evolution as a team player, which has elevated both the Nigerian forward and the club.

“When a group spends 300 days together in a year, people can have different views,” Gasperini said in his post-match press conference. “Lookman became a fantastic player when he improved his perception of the team. He used to have a more individual approach.”

The Atalanta coach acknowledged that while Lookman had always been a talented player, his ability to adapt and contribute to the team’s overall play made him truly special. Gasperini believes this transformation has benefited both Lookman and the club.

“He made Atalanta great, and Atalanta made him great,” Gasperini added, highlighting the mutual growth between player and team.

In a striking statement, Gasperini suggested that Lookman’s leadership qualities have developed to the point where he could wear the captain’s armband before the season ends. This marks a significant shift in their relationship and a testament to Lookman’s growing influence.

With Atalanta chasing their first league title in decades, Lookman’s continued form and leadership could be crucial in the weeks ahead.
