Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points with an impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds dominated the first half, with Virgil van Dijk striking the post early, and Cody Gakpo opening the scoring from close range.

City had a sluggish start and only managed one scuffed strike in the first 45 minutes, avoiding their first shot-less half in 14 years.

City showed signs of improvement after the break, but a mistake sent Mohamed Salah through on goal. However, Salah missed a one-on-one chance. The introduction of Jeremy Doku helped City settle into the game, but it was too late for Pep Guardiola’s side.

A defensive mix-up led to a penalty when Stefan Ortega fouled Luis Diaz in the box. Salah stepped up and converted the penalty, sealing the win for Liverpool.

With Arsenal and Chelsea closest to Liverpool in the standings, City now finds themselves 11 points behind in fifth place.
