FTSPURS REMAIN PERFECT THANKS TO RICHARLISON PENALTY
Tottenham earned a hard-fought UEFA Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar through a Richarlison penalty, as Mikey Moore lit up north London with a dazzling second-half display.

Moore switched wings at half-time as Timo Werner was withdrawn, and the 17-year-old proceeded to torture the AZ defence, though it was a foul on Lucas Bergvall that won the match-winning spot-kick.

Richarlison had a spat with James Maddison over who would take the penalty but oozed confidence as he dispatched it straight down the middle, as Tottenham enjoyed a purple patch in the third quarter.

Both sides deserved more goals, but Ange Postecoglou’s side controlled the final stages of the game to continue their perfect start to the competition. The win puts Tottenham second in the league phase, level on points with Lazio after three games.

FTFULL-TIME: TOTTENHAM 1-0 AZ ALKMAAR
They don’t succeed though, and that one goal is enough for Spurs! It’s been a game that deserved more on the scoresheet, but Ange Postecoglou won’t care and must be proud of the way his team responded in the second half.

90+3′NO PENALTY
And there’ll be a bit more time for AZ to try for an equaliser after that check.

90+2′PENALTY?
VAR are involved, though once again it’s somewhat a mystery how Tottenham didn’t put it away in open play! A flowing move sees Odobert put through on goal but he can’t get his attempt on target or find a teammate. He stays down clutching his left after contact with the goalie.

90′THREE ADDED MINUTES
And minutes after going into the book, Kwakman almost gets another yellow for a challenge on Johnson.

88′ 👋 MOORE DEPARTS
As a boy with a ‘Mikey Moore can I have your shirt’ receives directions from his older companion, it’s a rousing applause greeting the teenager. And a welcome return for Wilson Odobert too!

87′ 🔴 TWO IN TWO
It’s a second red card in as many games for David Moller Wolfe! Sent off after just 10 minutes at the weekend against PSV, he receives a second yellow for catching Johnson after he’d passed the ball.

85′ 🔄 DOUBLE CHANGE
And Mexx Meerdink also enters the fray.

84′LAST THROW OF THE DICE?
Sven Mijnans has really struggled to impose himself on the game, unlike his opposite number.

81′ ⚠️ KEEPING IT OPEN
Spurs are allowing their guests to stay in the competition here. Parrott dispossesses the defense once more but just can’t quite shake loose to pass to the onrushing Poku before Dragusin fills the passing lane and intercepts.

78′ 📺 WATCH: MADDISON AND RICHARLISON ARGUE OVER PENALTY
It was all smiles afterwards, but things threatened to get ugly for a moment.

75′MASSIVE CHANCE
How has this game still only got one goal? Parrott puts Lahdo through on goal after Ben Davies is caught out, and the substitute drills it low and hard. But Forster reads it well and puts his whole body behind the ball, retaining the slender lead.

74′ 🔄 SKIPPER OFF
It’s been a better outing for Maddison, who had been used to half-time substitutions recently.

73′ 🔄 BERGVALL MAKES WAY
Bergvall is visibly disappointed to exit early, especially after missing the match against Qarabag due to Dragusin’s red card.

69′ 🔄 ANOTHER CHANCE MISSED
No surprise here, it’s Poku again. He controls a bouncing ball, but the angle doesn’t favor him for a shot. AZ keep the attack alive, but fail to win a corner before Bergvall goes down. Dejan Kulusevski starts warming up immediately.

66′ 🟨 CHECKMATE MOORE
This was bound to happen. Mikey Moore has been dominating, and 21 minutes after switching flanks, his opposing full-back has now been substituted.

64′ 🔄 RICHARLISON OFF
It seems to be just cramp for the Brazilian, who was due to come off regardless. Dominic Solanke steps in, with his first task being to contest an upcoming corner.

62′ ⚠️ CHANCE FOR AZ
Poku pulls off a clever no-look pass to Moller Wolfe, who charges into the box but is met by a sliding tackle from Dragusin. AZ win a corner… but it results in nothing, with the set-piece easily cleared.

59′ 🔄 NOBODY HOME
Mikey Moore is causing all sorts of problems again. He beats Maikuma effortlessly and drills a low cross into the six-yard box. Unfortunately for Spurs, no one was there to finish, and it stays 1-0.

57′ 💪 BRILLIANT BENTANCUR
Dragusin owes Bentancur for this one. The Romanian defender lost control, allowing Poku to race clear. Just as Poku shaped to shoot, Bentancur slid in and knocked the ball out for a corner. Moments earlier, Moller Wolfe was shown a yellow card.

56′FENERBAHCE EQUALISE
Over in Turkey, Youssef En-Nesyri levels the score for Jose Mourinho’s side against Manchester United.

55′ ⚠️ COULD’VE BEEN TWO!
Spurs are slicing through AZ’s defense at will. Another long ball creates chaos as Johnson chases it down and squares it into the box, but Owusu-Oduro stretches to gather it just in time.

53′GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1-0 AZ ALKMAAR (Richarlison)
A bold choice after contesting with his captain for the spot-kick! Richarlison stutter-steps and calmly prods the penalty straight down the center, just as Owusu-Oduro dives away.

51′PENALTY!
It’s really been coming! VAR will check as Maddison and Richarlison square up over who will take it. Dekker chopped Bergvall as AZ were all at sea from a long ball.

48′ 🔥 THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS
This is a different player, surely? Moore has switched flanks to accommodate Johnson, and he is quite simply running riot. Again, he beats Maikuma and this time lifts a cross to the six-yard box that’s actually on target to nestle in the bottom corner before Owusu-Oduro palms it away.

47′MOORE IS SPARKLING
THAT’S a way to announce yourself on your first home start! It’s sensational by Moore who turns this way and that up the left then finds new boy Brennan Johnson—on for Timo Werner—with a sumptuous pass from the outside of his boot. However, it deflects off the heel of David Miller Wolfe to safety.

46′SECOND HALF UNDERWAY
And we’ve two new faces present.

HT: HALF-TIME STATS
No goals but plenty of chances in north London. Here’s how the match stands at the break:
Tottenham 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

  • Shots (on target): 9 (2) – 4 (1)
  • Possession: 62% – 38%
  • Passes: 330 – 206
  • Fouls: 8 – 5

    HT ⏸️ HALF-TIME: TOTTENHAM 0-0 AZ ALKMAAR
That is indeed how it stays, and Ange Postecoglou has plenty of food for thought in the next 15 minutes.

    45′ ⏳ TWO ADDED MINUTES
While Martens will probably be the happier coach at half-time if this remains 0-0, his side has had arguably the two best chances of the game. Spurs aim to change that now…

    41′ 🔥 SO CLOSE!
Kasius goes haring after a loose ball and looks favorite to get there first, with Spurs exposed. But Forster somehow reaches it in time, looking like he’s been fired out of a cannon. That may well have prevented AZ from taking the lead.
  • 40′ 🍽️ ON A PLATE
Another chance for Werner, another shot that’s not up to the task. A horrible Maikuma touch allows Richarlison to sprint onto the ball and feed Werner, but he smashes his shot well wide. Credit to Penetra, who reacted very well to shut down his angle.
  • 38′ 🎭 RUNNING THE SHOW
It’s an AZ chance, and by this stage, you shouldn’t even need us to confirm who created it. Poku finds a pocket to run into down the left against Gray, but there’s no support in the penalty area.
  • 36′ 🔄 REASSERTING CONTROL
Spurs have lost control after an effortless first 10 or 15 minutes. Now they try to rebuild through Rodrigo Bentancur.
  • 34′ ❓ PENALTY?
This time it’s the turn of Poku! He’s in a tussle with Dragusin and tumbles over, again the referee is unmoved.
  • 33′ ❌ NO PENALTY
It’s over quickly, and to be fair, the referee was well-positioned. Still, there was contact between the pair, and Penetra was nowhere near the ball.
  • 32′ ❓ PENALTY?
That could be tasty. Maddison twists Penetra this way and that before hitting the deck when the center-back dives in. This will be at least a corner, but VAR is checking.
  • 29′ ⚽ BRILLIANT SAVE
They’ve only had two chances, but both could’ve ended up in the back of the net! It’s a teasing delivery that Alexandre Penetra meets superbly, twisting his header to the far corner. Fraser Forster is just about equal to it, though, with an acrobatic top-hand save.
  • 28′ ⚡ CORNER FOR AZ
And all the big guns are up. This could be a counter-attack chance for Tottenham too…
  • 25′ ⚠️ MORE OF THE SAME
Spurs are missing some quality in the final third despite fashioning some really promising platforms. As if to illustrate the point, Timo Werner shuffles a one-on-one opportunity straight into the waiting gloves of Owusu-Oduro.
  • 21′ ⚡ EVENING OUT
The stoppage for Van Bommell has allowed AZ to reset, and they’re starting to stand up to the hosts. While a Seiya Maikuma foul on Werner gives Spurs a dead-ball chance, it’s evidence that AZ are competing much more ferociously.
  • 19′ ⚠️ HAD TO HIT IT
Oh Troy. Poku has come alive on the left wing and ties up three defenders, giving Parrott space to shoot. Or at least he had space to shoot when the ball arrived, but an ice age later, when he finally decides to pull the trigger, the shot is blocked.
  • 16′ ⚡ UNITED TAKE THE LEAD
Christian Eriksen has struck for the Red Devils against former boss Jose Mourinho. That’s live on TNT Sports 2 and discovery+, or you can catch up on the action through our live blog. Fenerbahce 0-1 Manchester United live: UEFA Europa League updates as Christian Eriksen puts the Red Devils ahead.
  • 15′ ⚠️ FINALLY LIFE
Ernest Poku has switched wings in that change and sparked an AZ chance at last! The visitors work it across the box to Kasius, who swings in a brilliant cross that’s begging to be hit. They’re lining up!
  • 12′ ⚠️ VAN BOMMELL MAKES WAY
That’s a big shame, as Denso Kasius sprints on in place of Van Bommell. It’s a sign of how crucial number seven is to AZ that Martens played on with 10 men for so long while assessing whether he could continue.
  • 11′ ⚡ TALK ABOUT ONE-SIDED
It feels like Spurs have had a lot more possession than the 57% shown on the official stats. AZ haven’t been able to get anything together, though they are spared somewhat when Lucas Bergvall makes a poor decision on the edge of the penalty area.
  • 9′ ⚠️ BIG LOSS
Maarten Martens is looking concerned, and with good reason: Ruben van Bommell has drawn attention from a host of bigger clubs after lighting up the Netherlands and Europe for AZ. However, he is down on the turf and not getting up quickly, with medics focusing on his left calf.
  • ⚡ QUICK OFF THE MARK
Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro shows wheels from between the sticks, racing out to beat James Maddison to a through-ball. He hits a ball up to Troy Parrott, who wins a free-kick in the aerial battle with Radu Dragusin. Can AZ build on this?
  • 5′ 🔴 OPPORTUNITY MISSED
Timo Werner whips in a devilish delivery, finding Mikey Moore, who caught Maxim Dekker. It’s a huge chance for the 17-year-old to score his first senior goal, but he can’t get enough contact on the header, and it bounces wide.
  • 3′ ⚪ NEAT WORK BY SPURS
Tottenham have had much the better of the first few minutes and have twice tried to find Richarlison, to no avail. The press is causing AZ plenty of problems, though.
  • 1′ The referee starts the match.
  • 🏟️ Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the match will start in about 5 minutes.
  • 19:58 🎶 PLAYERS ARE OUT
Just moments to go as the Europa League anthem rings out around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
