Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United saw several transfers, but it appears he wasn’t on board with all of them.

Reports reveal that the former United manager wasn’t fully convinced about signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million, especially as the forward arrived at Old Trafford out of shape, reportedly “a stone overweight.”

This was an unwelcome surprise for Ten Hag, who already held reservations about Zirkzee, a signing primarily driven by United’s new Ineos-led management, seeing the young player as a valuable long-term investment.

Zirkzee’s start at United has been rocky, managing just one goal in his 10 Premier League outings.

Although he made an impact with a decisive goal against Fulham on the opening night of the season, his performance since then has struggled to meet expectations.

Now, with Ruben Amorim set to replace Ten Hag, the question remains whether the new manager can unlock Zirkzee’s potential or if United will look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement.

Amorim, who has worked wonders with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, may seek to bring the prolific Swedish forward to Old Trafford.

Gyokeres, thriving in the Portuguese league under Amorim, has been linked to United and could be available for £50-58 million in the January window, adding to the club’s ongoing search for reliable goal scorers.
