Former Cameroon head coach Claude Le Roy has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles among the top contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After finishing as runners-up in the last edition, where they lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles remain a dominant force in African football. With three AFCON titles to their name, Nigeria is once again being tipped for glory.

Le Roy, who led Cameroon to AFCON success in 1988, sees Nigeria as a strong challenger. “Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria… Egypt is always a tough opponent,” he told LeSitelnfo.
He also highlighted South Africa’s steady rise under their current coach and acknowledged Cameroon’s ever-present threat in the competition.
Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. Their campaign kicks off in Fez against Tanzania on Tuesday.
