Noel Gallagher’s much-anticipated commentary debut on TNT Sport for Manchester City’s Champions League face-off against Sporting Lisbon turned into a memorable night for all the wrong reasons.

The Oasis star joined Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist, only to witness City’s 4-1 defeat, a shocking twist after they had taken an early lead.

The evening held added significance as it marked Ruben Amorim’s final home game as Sporting’s manager before his anticipated move to Manchester United.

Fans had mixed reactions upon hearing Gallagher behind the mic, with some quickly muting the broadcast. One viewer tweeted, “Wish I could mute Noel Gallagher on commentary.

Holy f**k this is abysmal.” Another joked, “Noel Gallagher on commentary for #SPOMCI #TNTsports – never hit the mute button so hard.”

City’s Phil Foden set the tone with a brilliant early goal, and Gallagher heaped praise on City’s control.

However, as Gallagher spoke, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres struck an equalizer, and the Portuguese champions went on to dominate the second half, ultimately leading 3-1 by the 49th minute.

Fans, especially United supporters, relished the irony of Gallagher’s misery as Sporting’s Maximiliano Araújo and Gyokeres widened the gap.

As Erling Haaland later hit the crossbar from the penalty spot, fans piled on the banter.

A Twitter user quipped, “Hi @NoelGallagher, you’ve gone quiet – is your mic off?” Paddy Power added, “TNT bringing in Noel Gallagher for commentary as future United manager’s team trounces City. Things you love to see.”

Adding salt to the wound, Gyokeres scored a hat-trick, clinching an unforgettable farewell to Amorim.

Gallagher made a parting jab at United fans, saying the result would “give ’em false hope” before hinting at Gyokeres joining United next season
