AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori has reportedly turned down the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur, handing Ange Postecoglou a major transfer blow.
Spurs had made a surprise £25m bid for the former Chelsea centre-back, hoping to address their defensive injury issues. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been struggling with fitness, and Radu Dragusin is expected to be out for some time with a knee problem.
The move seemed promising, with Spurs agreeing on terms with Milan. Tomori had also attracted interest from Juventus and Aston Villa, but Sky Italy now reports that after talks, the England international decided to remain at San Siro.
This marks the second transfer setback for Postecoglou in just 24 hours, following Mathys Tel’s rejection of a £50m move to stay at Bayern Munich.
With the January window closing soon, Tottenham is under pressure to secure a new centre-back, with Chelsea’s Axel Disasi reportedly a potential target.
The 26-year-old has struggled since joining Chelsea in 2023 and could be on the move after being recalled from loan by Chelsea.
Aston Villa has reportedly agreed personal terms with Disasi, but Spurs are still in the hunt, with the possibility of hijacking the deal. Chelsea is willing to let him leave on loan, provided it includes a buy obligation or a substantial loan fee.
