Flamengo has started discussions to sign Jorginho from Arsenal on a free transfer as his current contract nears its expiration in the summer. Despite no negotiations for an extension at the Emirates yet, Arsenal seems ready to part ways with the 33-year-old midfielder, with other clubs showing interest.
According to Globo Esporte, Flamengo has joined the race for Jorginho and is reportedly considering offering him a three-year deal.
While Jorginho is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement now, Flamengo aims to secure him immediately and hopes his good relationship with Arsenal could facilitate the move.
For this to happen, Arsenal would have to release Jorginho early from his contract, which they may be willing to do in order to avoid paying additional wages.
Jorginho has already had discussions with Flamengo head coach Filipe Luis over a potential move to Rio de Janeiro, with a video call held between the two and a club director.
Flamengo sees Jorginho as a potential replacement for Erick Pulgar, who is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
In addition, Palmeiras has shown interest in Jorginho in recent weeks, though no official offer has been made. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta commented that he would prefer to focus on the current season and leave player contract discussions for later.
