This decision follows the recent success of Nigeria’s U-20 team at the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Lome, Togo, where the team secured the title with a squad entirely composed of local players.
With the AFCON tournament approaching early next year, Zubairu stated his intent to broaden the selection pool, welcoming skilled players from overseas clubs to reinforce the team.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ilorin, Zubairu said, “We will not hinder their participation and are committed to selecting those with the necessary skills.”
This inclusive approach aims to strengthen the Flying Eagles squad for the challenges ahead at the continental tournament.
