Wesley Fofana’s season might be cut short after Enzo Maresca revealed the extent of the Chelsea star’s hamstring injury. Fofana, who missed all of last season due to injury, had made a strong comeback this year, becoming Chelsea’s standout defender.
His efforts helped the team remain in the top four, though their hopes for a Premier League title seem slim as they trail Liverpool by 10 points, having played one game more.
However, Chelsea might now have to cope without the center-back for several months, as Maresca shared an unsettling update before the upcoming clash against Crystal Palace.
Fofana had initially suffered the injury during a 3-0 win against Aston Villa in early December, with Maresca suggesting he would be sidelined for about a month. But after further tests, it appears the damage is far worse than originally anticipated, and his return date is uncertain.
Maresca confirmed, “Unfortunately, Wes will be out for a long time. He doesn’t need surgery at this moment, but he could miss the rest of the season. The initial diagnosis was less severe, but after more tests, we’ve learned it’s a serious hamstring injury. We’re going to lose him for an extended period.”
