Freddie Ljungberg hopes that Alexander Isak will soon join a top Premier League club like Arsenal, Chelsea, or Manchester City, where he believes the striker can reach the “absolute top.” Ljungberg, a Premier League legend and two-time champion with Arsenal, believes Isak’s exceptional talent deserves a bigger stage.
Since arriving in the Premier League in 2022, Isak has made a significant impact, quickly becoming one of the league’s most promising forwards. His debut season with Newcastle United saw him reach double-digit goals, and last season he netted 25 goals in all competitions, putting him just behind standout performers like Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer. Despite interest from major European clubs, Newcastle have managed to keep Isak as their star striker.
Ljungberg, impressed by Isak’s skill set, is confident that the Swedish international can elevate his game even further with one of the Premier League’s elite clubs. Speaking to the Swedish outlet Expressen, Ljungberg praised Isak’s rare combination of speed, finishing, and tactical intelligence. “His top level is huge. He has these super top qualities that I, as a coach, look for—qualities that make a player special and decisive in important moments,” Ljungberg said.
Isak’s ability to create and score goals, coupled with his humble and hard-working nature, leads Ljungberg to believe the striker has a bright future ahead. While Newcastle United is a strong club, Ljungberg envisions Isak moving to a team where he can maximize his potential and regularly compete for top honors. He added, “Newcastle is a good club, but at some point, I hope he goes to Arsenal, Chelsea, or Man City, where he can pour in goals.”
While Manchester City already have Erling Haaland leading their attack, Arsenal and Chelsea could soon be in the market for a prolific striker. Both clubs considered signing a goalscorer during the last transfer window but opted against it. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson have been performing well this season, making those clubs’ restraint in the transfer market seem justified.
After missing a month due to injury, Isak is set to return to action when Newcastle face Brighton. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle squad, who played in the Champions League last season, have lost only one of their first seven games, placing them just outside the Premier League’s top four. As Isak reenters the fold, Newcastle will look to build on their strong start to the campaign.
