Gary Lineker has urged Liverpool to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, believing the move “makes sense” as the Hungarian full-back continues to impress in the Premier League. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer this season, helping the Cherries climb into European contention while attracting interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Kerkez has quickly developed into one of the league’s most promising left-backs since arriving in England in 2023. Liverpool view him as a potential long-term successor to Andy Robertson, while United are monitoring him due to Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury concerns. Lineker, a big admirer of Kerkez, believes Liverpool is the ideal destination for him.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker praised Kerkez’s impact in Bournemouth’s recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham. “The run and the ball from Kerkez as well! He’s really good. I think they might struggle to keep him at Bournemouth. I saw the links with Liverpool, and that makes sense,” he said.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards echoed Lineker’s sentiments, highlighting Bournemouth’s pressing game and Kerkez’s quality. “They might be the best pressing side in the Premier League right now. Kerkez is just outstanding. He’s been linked with Liverpool as well,” Richards added.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has also advocated for a new left-back at Anfield, previously suggesting Kerkez as a strong option. “Andy Robertson needs help. He’s a Liverpool legend, but the amount of games he’s played, constantly running up and down, takes a toll. Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, was responsible for bringing Kerkez to Bournemouth, further fueling speculation of a potential summer transfer. His aggressive style and technical ability have made him a sought-after prospect, with many believing he could thrive at a top club.

Despite the growing interest, Liverpool boss Arne Slot remained tight-lipped about the links when asked last month. “I don’t think I have to talk about players that we are interested in, let alone a player from Bournemouth,” he said. “He’s having a great season, as many others are.”

With Kerkez’s rapid rise and Bournemouth’s European push, the summer transfer window could see a major battle between Liverpool and Manchester United for his signature.
