Football pundit Gary Neville has been urged to make an extraordinary return to football management by stepping in to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Des Lynam, former Match of the Day host, has voiced his support for Neville, claiming the Sky Sports analyst is still the ideal candidate to take charge despite his previous stint as a manager ending in 2016.

Although United secured a Europa League victory against Rangers recently, pressure continues to mount on Amorim. The team currently languishes in 13th place in the Premier League, managing just one win in their last six league outings after a surprising 2-1 triumph in the Manchester derby.

Earlier this week, Amorim candidly described the current squad as “one of the worst in United’s 147-year history.” Lynam believes turning to Neville, a revered figure in the club’s history, could provide the shake-up the team desperately needs.

“Gary Neville is still the best man for the job,” wrote Lynam in his Telegraph column. “He embodies Manchester United’s spirit and is visibly distressed by the club’s current struggles.”

Neville’s strong personality and business acumen make him a compelling candidate, Lynam added. “He’d be a commanding presence in the dressing room and astute in dealing with the financial side of the club,” he noted.

After retiring from professional football in 2011, Neville took on a coaching role with England under Roy Hodgson before accepting a managerial position at Valencia. However, his stint in Spain was short-lived, yielding just three wins in 16 league matches before his dismissal after four months.

Since then, the 49-year-old has thrived as a pundit and entrepreneur, but Lynam suggested that a return to Old Trafford could immortalize Neville as a club savior.

“If anyone could shoulder the responsibility of leading the team and rebuilding the club, Neville has the courage and expertise to do it,” Lynam continued. Quoting Cuban leader Fidel Castro, he added, “Destiny finds the man for the hour.”
