Graeme Souness has cast serious doubts over Chelsea’s decision to sign Jadon Sancho, stating that he is “not convinced” the winger is the right fit for the club.

Speaking on a football panel, the former Liverpool midfielder referred to Sancho as “the little winger” and questioned his ability to perform at the highest level consistently.

Souness highlighted Sancho’s struggles during his time at Manchester United, where the England international failed to live up to the high expectations following his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund.

“The little winger? I’m just not convinced by him,” Souness commented. “He hasn’t shown enough in recent years to suggest he can turn things around at Chelsea. He’s got talent, but talent isn’t everything—you need to have the right mentality.”

Sancho’s move to Chelsea, should it materialize, would come at a time when the winger is looking to rebuild his career after a challenging period at Old Trafford, marred by inconsistent performances and off-field issues.

Souness pointed to Sancho’s inability to deliver on his potential in the Premier League as a major concern. “When you play for a club like Chelsea, you need to be at your best every week. I just haven’t seen that from Sancho, and I’m not sure he has the mentality to succeed in that environment.”

Souness’s criticism echoes sentiments shared by other pundits who have questioned whether Sancho can rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.

As Chelsea continues its rebuild under new management, the potential acquisition of Sancho remains a topic of debate, with many questioning whether the winger can adapt to the pressures of playing for another top Premier League club.

Sancho will need to prove his doubters wrong if he is to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge, should the move go through, and help Chelsea in their bid for domestic and European success.
