Guirassy had been among the final five contenders for the honor, alongside Lookman, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

The award ceremony, held in Marrakech, Morocco, saw Lookman succeed his compatriot Victor Osimhen as the new titleholder.

Addressing his fans on his X handle after the event, Guirassy expressed gratitude and optimism:

“Dear brothers and sisters, even if the African Ballon d’Or was not awarded to me this year, it does not diminish the pride I feel in representing Guinea with honor.

I want to sincerely thank my family, teammates, coaches, friends, and all of you for your unwavering support and trust.

“Your love, strength, and solidarity uplift me every day. I believe this unity and fraternity are essential and must always be preserved. Together, we can achieve remarkable things.

“This is just the beginning. I will continue striving to give my best for our nation and to inspire young Guineans to dream big and aim high.”

The striker’s heartfelt message resonated with his supporters, emphasizing his determination to succeed and his commitment to Guinea’s future in football.
