The reigning Premier League champions had gone five matches without a win, but their return to form at the King Power Stadium marked a significant turnaround.

Haaland, who had scored just once in his previous seven games, was relieved to be back on the scoresheet, netting his 14th Premier League goal of the season with a powerful header. After the game, the 24-year-old striker was blunt and unfiltered during his Sky Sports interview.

“Not much to say, it’s good to win. Just happy that we’re winning,” he said before unexpectedly adding, “I think it’s important to look ahead, s**t happens. I just swore before, but it doesn’t matter. Things happen. We have to keep going and stay positive.”

Reflecting on his goal, Haaland admitted, “It’s always a relief when you score. It was an important goal to go 2-0 up. Leicester played really well under their new coach, and we knew it would be tough. It’s been a difficult time, but now it’s New Year, so let’s not think too much about football! We’ll rest and then go again.”

The victory lifted Pep Guardiola’s team to fifth in the table, with the manager expressing cautious optimism. “Our mood is better now,” said Guardiola.

“Leicester were much better in the second half, and we struggled to sustain energy for 90 minutes. Hopefully, the New Year will help us bounce back fully. For now, it’s just relief more than joy.”

City will look to build on this performance when they host West Ham at the Etihad on 4 January. The goals from Haaland and Savinho have given them a renewed sense of hope as they aim to climb further up the table.
