Harry Maguire has provided a promising update on his Manchester United future, revealing that discussions over a new contract have been ‘positive’ as he regains his place in the squad under new boss Ruben Amorim.

The 31-year-old defender, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, has had a mixed journey at Old Trafford since his record-breaking £80m move from Leicester City in 2019.

While initially named club captain under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Maguire’s struggles saw him drop in and out of the starting lineup under Erik ten Hag.

However, Amorim’s arrival has brought a fresh start for Maguire, who featured in United’s 2-1 Manchester derby victory on Sunday as part of a back three. Speaking on his future, the England international said:
“I haven’t really thought about it.

I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands. But all the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive.”

Maguire’s return from a hamstring injury has been gradual, but his solid performance against Manchester City marked a significant step forward.

The defender is adapting well to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, a formation he’s familiar with.
“I’ve played in a back three numerous times in my career.

Generally, I played on the left, but I’m playing in the middle at the moment. It feels good, we feel solid,” Maguire explained.

With his minutes being carefully managed, Maguire emphasized his progress:
“To get 90 minutes under my belt for the first time in two, three months feels good.”

Meanwhile, Amad Diallo, United’s hero against City, finds himself in a similar contractual position.

The 22-year-old’s deal also expires this summer, though United have the option to extend it for another year. Given his recent form, there’s no doubt the club will push to secure his long-term future, with negotiations ongoing.

As Maguire and Diallo continue to impress, their futures at Manchester United appear increasingly bright under Ruben Amorim’s leadership.
