Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has praised defender Harry Maguire, commending his resilience and professionalism during challenging times at Old Trafford.

Maguire played the full 90 minutes in United’s 2-0 Boxing Day defeat to Wolves and has become a key figure under Amorim, starting the last three Premier League games.

Despite the team’s struggles, the 31-year-old England international has remained focused and determined.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Amorim addressed Maguire’s form following a difficult few years at the club.

“Harry works really well and stays focused on his job, regardless of what others say. He has no excuses, even after some tough moments,” Amorim said. “In that regard, he’s an example. He’s here to play, help the team, and do his best.”

Maguire’s journey has seen highs and lows, including losing the captaincy under former manager Erik ten Hag. Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag in November, has endured a rocky start himself, with only two wins in seven league games.

Acknowledging the pressure on his role, Amorim reflected on the challenges of managing Manchester United.

“This is a job where you’re always under scrutiny. It doesn’t matter if they paid the buyout; if we’re not winning, every manager is in danger,” he said.

“I’ve been here a month, and despite limited training sessions, results haven’t come. That’s the reality, and I’m comfortable with it. It’s part of the job.”

United will face Newcastle United on Monday as Amorim looks to turn things around and build momentum for the remainder of the season.
