The Super Eagles midfielder was recently deployed as a striker alongside Victor Osimhen in the 1-1 draw against Benin during last week’s 2025 AFCON qualifier.
Despite adapting to different roles, Iheanacho is clear about his preference ahead of Nigeria’s crucial match against Rwanda.
In a conversation with Victor Modo, Iheanacho expressed his adaptability but underlined his comfort in the playmaker position.
He remarked, “Managers have different perspectives, and wherever they place me, I’ll do my job. But for me personally, in the national team, being a number 10 suits me best.”
He further explained the contrast between his roles at the club and national levels. While he primarily plays as a number 9 for his club, Iheanacho believes his creativity and vision shine brightest when positioned as a number 10 for Nigeria.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their next AFCON qualifier, Iheanacho’s preferred role could be pivotal to their success.
