Joao Felix’s loan move to AC Milan is unraveling fast, with the Portuguese forward facing ruthless criticism following his team’s latest defeat.
Felix, who left Chelsea in January due to limited playing time under Enzo Maresca, hoped for a fresh start in Serie A.
Despite an impressive debut goal in the Italian Cup, he has failed to register a single goal or assist in his last five games.
Milan’s struggles have compounded his woes. They crashed out of the Champions League against Feyenoord and slipped to seventh in Serie A after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Torino.
Italian football journalist Fabio Ravezzani didn’t hold back in his scathing assessment of Milan’s form and new manager Sergio Conceicao. His harshest words were reserved for Felix, stating: “Joao Felix is as handsome as he is useless.”
Ravezzani also took aim at defender Malick Thiaw and criticized the decision to substitute Rafael Leao. “Conceicao is causing more damage than hail. The directors failed in choosing the second coach.”
Felix’s career has been filled with ups and downs since his £113m move from Benfica to Atletico Madrid in 2019.
While he won La Liga in 2021, he struggled under Diego Simeone and later had underwhelming loan spells at Chelsea and Barcelona.
Despite his talent, Felix has yet to live up to the expectations that made him one of the most expensive players in history.
His return to Chelsea last summer was brief, and now his Milan spell is turning into another disappointment.
Milan fans vented their frustration by booing the team off the pitch after the Torino loss. Conceicao acknowledged their discontent, saying: “I am sorry for the fans. They have every right to be upset. We are Milan, and we take the criticism together.”
Felix will have a chance to prove his critics wrong when Milan face Bologna on Thursday. But with his form dwindling and patience wearing thin, time is running out for him to make an impact in Italy.
