John Obi Mikel has criticized Nicolas Jackson and Robert Sanchez following Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, asserting that the duo are “not good enough” to restore Chelsea’s dominance.

The Blues had a promising start at the Etihad, capitalizing on a City defensive error when Noni Madueke scored in the third minute.

However, Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden turned the game around for the hosts, exposing Chelsea’s vulnerabilities.

Mikel expressed his frustration on The Obi One Podcast, calling out Jackson for his missed opportunities. “Your job is to score goals,” Mikel said.

“That’s why you’re here. He had a golden chance to make it 2-0, and instead, he hesitated. We need someone like Didier Drogba, a striker who can be relied on to deliver consistently.”

Mikel also criticized goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for his decision-making, particularly for Haaland’s goal. “He’s not a top goalkeeper,” Mikel stated. “Sanchez isn’t the kind of player who can take Chelsea back to the top. His mistakes cost us again.”

The former Chelsea midfielder believes the team’s lack of reliable options in key positions is holding them back.

He urged the club to sign players like Victor Osimhen, who could provide the goal-scoring consistency the team currently lacks.

Chelsea’s struggles leave them sixth in the Premier League, trailing Liverpool by 13 points. For Mikel, the solution is clear: “We need a world-class striker and goalkeeper if we want to compete at the top level again.”
