Lookman, who has been a standout performer for both Nigeria and Atalanta, capped off an incredible year by winning the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award in Marrakech, Morocco.
Reflecting on Lookman’s transformation under Gasperini, Peseiro told Sportitalia: “I think giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to show his quality, both in terms of decision-making and execution.
Of course, the club and Gasperini have provided Lookman with the environment to grow as a player in all aspects.”
Lookman’s achievements in 2024 have been remarkable. He played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final and delivered a spectacular performance in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, including a memorable hat-trick in their 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
Peseiro, who previously coached the Super Eagles, also praised Lookman’s well-deserved CAF award win.
“I think Lookman’s victory is deserved given his performances both for Atalanta, his club, and for his country, Nigeria,” he said.
The winger’s growth and success highlight the impact of Gasperini’s management and Lookman’s hard work.
With his confidence soaring, Lookman’s continued brilliance promises even greater achievements in the years ahead.
