Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an end, according to former goalkeeper Ben Foster, who believes Sir Alex Ferguson would have axed the Dutch forward. Zirkzee’s struggles follow a series of disappointing performances after joining the Red Devils for £36.5 million from Bologna.

The 23-year-old initially impressed with a late winner on his debut against Fulham, but since then, he has scored just three goals and recorded two assists in 27 appearances. Fans and pundits remain unsure about his position or his role in the team.

Recently, Zirkzee was criticized for missing a late opportunity to win a match against Liverpool, and earlier, he was substituted just 33 minutes into a game against Newcastle after United went 2-0 down.

Frustrated, Zirkzee walked off the pitch and into the tunnel, a move that angered fans. He later returned to the bench, but the damage was done.

Foster, who played under Ferguson for five years, expressed disbelief at Zirkzee’s actions, stating on his YouTube channel, “If Ferguson had been in charge, that player would have been finished.”

He explained that walking off the pitch would never have been tolerated, stressing that Ferguson would have made the player pay the price for such a public display.

Despite his struggles, Zirkzee is reportedly keen to remain at United and fight for his place in the squad. However, rumors suggest Juventus may be interested in signing him, offering a potential reunion with his former Bologna manager, Thiago Motta.

United manager Ruben Amorim defended Zirkzee’s decision to pass instead of shooting for a potential match-winning goal against Liverpool, claiming it was the right move despite the criticism.

“Sometimes you can’t take the shot, but Josh made the right choice,” Amorim said, standing by his player amid the struggles.

Zirkzee may have a chance to prove his worth when United faces Arsenal in the FA Cup third round, and his future at the club hangs in the balance.
