Sevilla’s Nigerian winger, Chidera Ejuke, is set to be out of action for the next three months following a serious hamstring injury sustained during his side’s 3-0 defeat to Barcelona. Ejuke, 26, was forced to exit the match in the final moments of the first half after pulling up in visible pain and holding his hamstring. He had to be helped off the pitch by Sevilla’s medical team, receiving a gesture of sportsmanship from Barcelona’s manager, Hansi Flick, as he limped off.

The injury is a blow not just to Ejuke but to Sevilla as well, as the team will miss his blistering pace and creative dribbling on the flanks. The Nigerian international had only recently returned to club action after a turbulent international break with the Super Eagles, during which the team was stranded for over 14 hours at a Libyan airport.

Reports from EuroFoot confirm that Ejuke suffered a high-grade hamstring tear, which will require significant recovery time, ruling him out of Sevilla’s squad until early next year. His absence leaves a gap in the Sevilla attack, where his agility and trickery had become key components.
