Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has heaped praise on Wilfred Ndidi following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford on Friday night.
Ndidi, who recently returned to full training after a two-month injury layoff, was back in action from the start. The Nigerian midfielder had been sidelined since suffering a muscle injury during Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last December.
Ndidi put in a strong performance but was substituted in the 58th minute, making way for Harry Winks. Despite the loss, Van Nistelrooy was full of admiration for the 27-year-old’s display.

“You’ve seen how he played—his energy, his influence on and off the ball. His performance was outstanding, but even more impressive was his leadership,” Van Nistelrooy told Leicester City Mercury.
“He wasn’t just wearing the captain’s armband; he was leading by example. He commanded his teammates, provided guidance, and prevented dangerous situations before they happened.”
The Leicester boss also highlighted the midfield partnership between Ndidi and Bouba Soumaré, praising their control in the middle of the park.
“Bouba and Wilf worked really well together today. They kept possession, dictated play, and helped us stay organized defensively,” he added.
Despite the disappointment of the FA Cup exit, Ndidi’s return to form is a major boost for Leicester City as they continue their campaign.
