Leroy Sane could potentially become one of football’s hottest free agents next summer, but the German winger has made it clear that his priority is to remain at Bayern Munich.
The 28-year-old’s contract with Bayern is set to expire at the end of the season, sparking interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United.
However, Sane has reassured Bayern fans that he is focused on continuing his journey in Munich, underlining his satisfaction with the club and head coach Vincent Kompany.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Sane expressed confidence in the ongoing contract negotiations.
“I have confidence in myself, in the situation, and also in my club. We are in a transparent and relaxed exchange,” Sane said. “I feel really good, and the talks with Vinni [Kompany], Max Eberl, and Christoph Freund are very good and trusting. My thoughts are currently only on Bayern. Everything else will unfold in the coming weeks and months.”
Despite speculation that Sane may need to take a pay cut to stay, the winger dismissed money as a key factor in his decision.
“The topic [money] is not on my mind at all right now. How much I earn is not my top priority. To be honest, I haven’t thought about it for a second.”
Sane also praised the impact of Kompany’s leadership at Bayern, emphasizing the team’s attacking style.
“We know each other well. Under Vinni, we play a good offensive style of football. We have fun on the pitch under his leadership, and that is important to me. Of course, it plays a role in my decision.”
When asked about a potential move in January, Sane dismissed the idea, stating he will see out the season with Bayern. “I will definitely not sign for another club on January 1 or 2. I don’t need a quick decision.”
Although Sane acknowledged his continued admiration for the Premier League, he stressed that his focus is on Bayern.
“I have a sympathy for the league; I still watch certain games on TV. But for me, the attraction lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop, and win titles. I have that at Bayern. This is where my greatest challenge and goals are.”
As Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga and push for success across competitions, the club and its fans will be hoping that Sane’s words translate into a long-term commitment in the months to come.
