The 21-year-old joined Ipswich from Manchester City last summer in a £20 million deal, signing a five-year contract.
His impressive performances, including seven goals in 18 league matches, have drawn attention from giants like Chelsea and Liverpool.
However, Delap has dismissed speculation about a potential move. Speaking after Ipswich’s recent 2-0 victory over Chelsea, he told Suffolk News:
“I don’t really look at things like that. My focus is on Ipswich. We’re fortunate to play in the Premier League, and we have a great opportunity here to showcase our abilities every week.”
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who coached Delap during his time at Manchester City, has openly praised the striker. “Liam is an exceptional player, especially for his age,” said Maresca. “I worked with him for a year, and he scored over 20 goals.
He’s a smart player who works hard both on and off the ball. He has the potential to become a key player for England.”
Manchester City, Delap’s former club, could also re-enter the picture thanks to a buy-back clause in his Ipswich contract. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed this clause exists, along with a 20% sell-on clause, which could significantly impact Ipswich financially if the striker is sold to another team.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has been delighted with Delap’s development. Following his performance against Chelsea, McKenna said: “Liam was outstanding. He’s shown incredible improvement since July. His growing maturity and drive to improve are remarkable for a 21-year-old.”
For now, Delap remains grounded, focused on his football, and enjoying his time with Ipswich. As McKenna noted, “He’s a funny lad who stays in the moment. He’s enjoying his football, bonding with the team, and working hard to keep getting better.”
Whether or not the big clubs come calling, Delap’s loyalty and passion for Ipswich are clear. For the Tractor Boys, his contributions could be crucial in their Premier League journey.
