The Libyan Football Federation has denied reports of mistreating the Super Eagles at Al Abraq International Airport, according to Soccernet.ng.

The Nigerian team was en route to Benghazi but was redirected to Al Abraq, 300km away, where they were stranded for over 13 hours without food or internet access. The ordeal led to the Super Eagles withdrawing from the match and returning safely to Nigeria.

In response, the Libyan Football Federation posted on their official X page, rejecting accusations of unfair treatment. They claimed Nigeria was responsible, referencing a past incident involving the Libyan team traveling to Uyo.

“The Libyan Federation condemns the Nigerian Football Federation’s refusal to participate in the scheduled match on Tuesday, October 15, and will take legal steps to protect Libya’s interests. Despite challenges, the Libyan team honored the Nigeria-Libya game last Friday, showing cooperation with CAF. We apologize to Libyan fans and parties involved for the confusion caused by Nigeria,” read the translated statement.

CAF has also announced an investigation into the events surrounding the situation.
