The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has penalized the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) following disruptions during the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Benin in Benghazi on November 18, 2024.

According to a statement on CAF’s website, the Disciplinary Board reached the decision after reviewing incidents from both the CAF Interclub Competitions and AFCON qualifiers.
The LFF was found guilty of violating articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code due to the actions of its supporters and officials during and after the match against Benin.
As a consequence, Libya must play its next two official national team matches behind closed doors. Additionally, the LFF has been fined $50,000.
This isn’t Libya’s first sanction this year. In October, CAF awarded Nigeria three points and three goals after a controversial incident during matchday 4 of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The Super Eagles, stranded at a Libyan airport for over 12 hours without food or water, refused to proceed with their game against the Libyan team, the Black Knights.
Following an investigation, CAF imposed a $50,000 fine on Libya and officially granted Nigeria the match points and goals.
With these developments, Nigeria and Benin Republic have successfully secured qualification for the AFCON 2025 in Morocco. Libya and Rwanda, on the other hand, failed to advance.
