Lisandro Martinez has described the past few weeks as one of the most difficult periods of his career after suffering a devastating ACL injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
However, after undergoing ‘perfect’ surgery, the Manchester United defender is now shifting his focus toward recovery and a positive future.
The 27-year-old was injured during United’s defeat to Crystal Palace earlier this month, and the severity of the problem means he is expected to miss the start of the next campaign as well.
Taking to Instagram, Martinez shared an emotional message about his mental state following the injury.
“Today, after going through several stormy days where I allowed myself to feel and accept my sadness, helplessness, insecurities, fears, and a deep emotional imbalance, I am reconnecting with my essence and my values, which help me see things from a kinder and more positive perspective,” he wrote.
Despite the difficult emotions, he expressed gratitude for the support he has received from Manchester United, the Argentina national team, his family, friends, and teammates.
“The surgery went perfectly!! Now it’s time to give it my all, with heart and soul, in the rehabilitation process,” he added.
Martinez’s absence adds to Manchester United’s growing injury concerns. Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, and Jonny Evans are all sidelined, while Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer remain doubts for Sunday’s clash with Tottenham.

Ruben Amorim has been forced to turn to youth, with five teenage prospects Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, Elyh Harrison, Harry Amass, and Chido Obi-Martin traveling with the squad to North London.
Adding to United’s woes, Amad Diallo has confirmed he will be out for several weeks with an ankle injury, delivering another blow to Amorim’s squad.
“Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season,” Diallo posted on social media. “Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury.
I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”
With United facing a crucial run of fixtures, Amorim will need to find solutions fast as his depleted squad fights to keep their season alive.
