The 32-year-old Egyptian forward has cemented his status as a club legend, scoring 221 goals in 366 appearances and leaving an indelible mark on the Premier League.
With his potential departure looming, the Reds have identified Lyon’s Rayan Cherki as a promising successor.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, the 21-year-old forward has caught Liverpool’s eye, though competition for his signature is fierce, with Paris Saint-Germain also expressing interest.
Cherki, a product of Lyon’s esteemed academy, has already amassed significant experience with 152 appearances and 20 goals for the club since debuting at just 16.
The young Frenchman, who scored recently for France’s Under-21 side, remains under contract with Lyon until 2026. A clause in his deal extends his stay by another year if he is not sold by next summer, giving Lyon leverage.
However, financial struggles at the club could force a sale to stave off potential relegation from Ligue 1. Despite the speculation, Cherki remains focused on Lyon, stating earlier this year, “Lyon comes first. When the time comes, we will address the future.”
For Liverpool, losing Salah alongside key players like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts also expire this season, could pose a significant challenge. Cherki’s potential arrival may signal the Reds’ intent to rebuild their squad and sustain their competitive edge.
