Despite fierce competition from other legendary strikers, Henry’s dominance on the pitch secured him first place, thanks to his unmatched blend of pace, skill, and physicality.
Carragher shared his admiration for the Frenchman during a Sky Sports segment, describing Henry as a player who made him feel “completely inferior” during their encounters.
“I think it’s universally thought that you are the best player to play in the Premier League,” Carragher told Henry. “I played against a few of these players, and in the main, it was a battle.
Thierry is the one player on that list who made me feel like I couldn’t cope. There wasn’t any weakness or chink in the armor where I thought I could gain an advantage.”
Carragher highlighted Henry’s incredible all-around ability, pointing to his rare feat of scoring over 20 Premier League goals and providing over 20 assists in a single season. “That’s what makes you number one,” he added.
Here’s Jamie Carragher’s full list of top Premier League forwards:
- Thierry Henry
- Mohamed Salah
- Cristiano Ronaldo
- Eric Cantona
- Didier Drogba
- Wayne Rooney
- Alan Shearer
- Eden Hazard
- Dennis Bergkamp
- Gareth Bale
Alan Shearer, the league’s all-time top scorer, was a surprising inclusion at seventh place. Carragher explained that Shearer’s lack of silverware at Newcastle influenced his ranking, despite his Premier League win with Blackburn.
“I hold quite a high stock with the trophy situation,” Carragher said. “He did his job at Newcastle, but even an FA Cup or UEFA Cup would’ve elevated him on this list.”
Reacting to his top spot, Henry expressed gratitude: “When you’re part of that list, you’re already a winner. Some might prefer Ronaldo or someone else, but you give me this one, and I will take it.”
