The Reds dominated the match, with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz each scoring twice, while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai added to the tally.
This victory solidified Liverpool’s position at the top of the Premier League table with 39 points, maintaining a game in hand over rivals Chelsea (35 points) and Arsenal (33 points).
Although Konate didn’t feature due to a knee injury that has sidelined him for the last five matches, the 25-year-old made headlines with a jab at Arsenal fans.
The tension stems from a November post on X (formerly Twitter), where an Arsenal fan cruelly wished Konate’s knee issue was severe.
Over the weekend, a Liverpool fan clapped back, sharing a photo of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka injured on the Selhurst Park pitch, captioned: “Karma is a b****.”
Konate jumped in, adding fuel to the fire: “We are not like them… we wish no harm. Anyway In Sha Allah big 3 pts today.” His post, accompanied by an eye emoji, highlighted his disdain for the rival fanbase.
Meanwhile, Arsenal suffered a setback as Bukayo Saka left Selhurst Park on crutches following a hamstring injury during their 5-1 triumph over Crystal Palace. Manager Mikel Arteta later confirmed that Saka would be out for “many weeks,” a blow given his stellar performance this season, contributing 15 goal involvements in 16 league games.
However, football pundit Les Ferdinand took a different view, suggesting that the timing of Saka’s injury might work in Arsenal’s favor.
“If there was a perfect time to get injured, it would be now,” Ferdinand told Sky Sports. “Missing the Christmas period could allow him to rest and return stronger for the second half of the season.”
As the rivalry between Liverpool and Arsenal intensifies, both teams will look to recover and push forward in the title race.
