Liverpool Star Urged to Leave Anfield Amid Chelsea Transfer Buzz

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been advised to leave Anfield to secure regular first-team football, with Chelsea reportedly interested in the Irish international as a solution to their goalkeeping woes.

Kelleher, 26, has stepped up impressively in recent weeks, starting Liverpool’s last eight games due to Alisson Becker’s injury sustained during the victory over Crystal Palace on October 5. His performances have earned plaudits from fans and pundits alike, yet his future remains uncertain as Alisson nears a return to full fitness.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed earlier this week that Alisson remains sidelined and will miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against defending champions Manchester City.

However, once the Brazilian returns, it is widely expected that Alisson will reclaim his position as Liverpool’s undisputed No. 1 — a scenario that could leave Kelleher once again relegated to the bench.

For Kelleher, who has previously voiced frustrations about his lack of playing time, such a situation may prove untenable. The Republic of Ireland international has hinted in the past that he would consider a move if it meant securing regular first-team action.

Chelsea has reportedly emerged as a potential suitor for Kelleher. Their current first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, has faced criticism despite manager Enzo Maresca’s public backing.

Fans and pundits have questioned whether Sanchez possesses the quality required to compete at the top level, fueling speculation that Chelsea could look for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Ex-England striker Darren Bent weighed in on the situation, comparing Kelleher’s potential move to Chelsea with Emiliano Martinez’s breakout transfer from Arsenal to Aston Villa in 2020.

“I look at Emiliano Martinez,” Bent told talkSPORT. “He was at Arsenal for like ten years, got an opportunity, excelled, and then moved on to Aston Villa. Now, he’s a World Cup winner.

“Kelleher is 25; it’s time now. He’s a very good goalkeeper, and there’s an opportunity at Chelsea. I’m not convinced about Robert Sanchez — he’s good but inconsistent. For £35m, Kelleher would be a bargain and a great fit for Chelsea.”

Kelleher showcased his abilities once again during Liverpool’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo secured the win, helping Liverpool maintain their superb form this season.

With Liverpool currently sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table, Kelleher will likely be in goal again for this weekend’s crucial clash against Manchester City.

While his immediate focus will be on keeping Liverpool’s title charge on track, questions surrounding his long-term future will undoubtedly persist. Whether Kelleher stays to fight for his place or takes a leap toward a new chapter at Chelsea remains to be seen.
