Liverpool have been advised against signing Matheus Cunha, despite the Wolves forward’s growing reputation and links to several top Premier League clubs.
The Brazilian has been in fine form this season, netting 12 league goals, including a stunning strike against Liverpool. His performances have caught the attention of major clubs, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest all reportedly monitoring his situation.
Although Wolves recently secured Cunha on a new contract until 2029, the deal includes a £60m release clause, making a summer exit a strong possibility.
Despite the speculation, Chelsea legend and former Sunderland boss Gustavo Poyet believes Liverpool have no reason to pursue the 25-year-old, particularly if Mohamed Salah stays at Anfield beyond this season.

“Liverpool don’t need anything right now!” Poyet told Makthavare. “They’re seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with a great squad, so there’s no need for big moves.”
Poyet acknowledged Cunha’s talent but argued that Liverpool already have all the attacking firepower required to compete for major trophies.
“Cunha is a fantastic player, but he’s not essential for Liverpool’s success. They just need to keep winning matches, which they are already doing.”
Liverpool’s incoming manager, Arne Slot, has also spoken highly of Cunha, suggesting he has the talent to perform at the highest level.
“He’s the kind of player I talk about when I compare leagues,” Slot explained. “If you look at the 17th-placed team in the Dutch league, no player there could play for Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord. But Cunha has the quality to play for one of England’s top five teams.”
Slot’s comments highlight the Premier League’s superior depth, emphasizing why games against struggling sides in England are far tougher than in other European leagues.
With his £60m release clause in play this summer, Cunha’s future remains uncertain. While Wolves will hope to keep their star forward, the interest from top clubs could make it difficult.
Liverpool’s transfer plans may ultimately depend on Salah’s future. If the Egyptian remains at Anfield, the Reds could pass on Cunha. However, if Salah leaves, the Wolves striker could become a viable option for Slot’s new-look Liverpool.
