Ademola Lookman has earned a spot in the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, joining a competitive field of football stars.
The CAF revealed the shortlisted candidates on Thursday evening, which includes Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams.
Lookman, who is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his international teammate Victor Osimhen, the winner of last year’s award, has had an impressive year.
Representing Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, Lookman netted three goals and provided one assist in seven appearances.
At club level, the Atalanta forward has been in stellar form, scoring 11 goals and adding five assists in just 18 games across all competitions.
His hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final was a historic moment for the 27-year-old.
The CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, next Monday, where the winner will be crowned.
