Atalanta suffered their first defeat of the UEFA Champions League season, losing 3-2 to Real Madrid at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday.
Despite Ademola Lookman’s impressive goal, the Serie A side couldn’t hold off the Spanish giants.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Real Madrid after just 10 minutes, putting Atalanta on the back foot early.
However, Charles De Ketelaere managed to level the score for the hosts with a penalty in stoppage time during the first half.
In the second half, Real Madrid regained the lead as Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham both found the back of the net, giving them a 3-1 advantage.
Despite this, Atalanta’s Lookman, who had already been in fine form this season, scored again in the 65th minute with Lazar Samardzic providing the assist.
The goal was Lookman’s third in the competition this season, adding to his impressive tally of 11 goals and five assists from 18 appearances across all competitions. His performance once again proved vital for Atalanta, though it wasn’t enough to secure a result.
Meanwhile, at the Bay Arena, Nathan Tella starred in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan.
The only goal of the match came in the 90th minute from Nordi Mukiele, securing the victory for the hosts. Tella was substituted off in the 83rd minute, but his performance was praised as he played a key role in Leverkusen’s success.
