Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has encountered another fitness setback but is still expected to resume training on Monday.
The 29-year-old has endured a challenging year, making just five appearances for the club due to ongoing injury struggles.
Shaw initially made brief substitute appearances in Ruben Amorim’s first three matches in charge at Old Trafford, but a fresh injury in December left him devastated.
Despite returning to training at the end of January, recent reports suggest a new issue could delay his comeback by at least another four weeks.
With Lisandro Martinez sidelined long-term after an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Crystal Palace, Shaw’s return is crucial for United’s defensive stability.
He excelled in a left centre-back role under Erik ten Hag and was deployed similarly in Amorim’s back-three system before his latest setback.
Although speculation on social media hinted at a prolonged absence, the Daily Telegraph reports that United still expects Shaw back in training at the start of next week. However, he will miss Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash with Leicester City.
Shaw’s latest injury is reportedly unrelated to the calf issue that troubled him last year.
After featuring against Ipswich Town, Bodo/Glimt, and Everton, he suffered a muscle strain that has kept him out since December.
