Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has returned to training but is not yet ready for first-team action, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed.
The 29-year-old England international stepped onto the grass for the first time since early December after a setback with a calf injury. Having made just three appearances across all competitions this season, his return is a welcome boost—but the club is proceeding with caution.
Given Shaw’s injury history, Amorim has emphasized the need for patience. He stated:
“It can take a little bit more time. He needs to train more, to spend more time with his teammates in small-sided games before joining full sessions.”
With Crystal Palace visiting Old Trafford this weekend, Shaw is not expected to feature. However, a return later in February remains possible.
While Shaw recovers, United are close to signing Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, aiming to reinforce the left-back position. Injuries have left Diogo Dalot filling in on the left, while Tyrell Malacia has struggled with fitness and form.
Malacia has been linked with a loan move to Real Betis, though Amorim was non-committal about his future:
“It’s a difficult context for him, but he’s our player and we will support him.”
United will be without Mason Mount and Jonny Evans, but otherwise, Amorim has a near full-strength squad.
Crystal Palace, however, are dealing with key absences, including star playmaker Eberechi Eze, as confirmed by manager Oliver Glasner.
Glasner, who previously faced Amorim’s Sporting CP with Eintracht Frankfurt, praised the United boss:
“I have a lot of respect for Ruben. It wasn’t easy coming into a big club like United, but he’s implementing his philosophy, and you can see the progress.”
As both managers prepare for Sunday’s showdown, United fans will be eager to see if their defensive reinforcements arrive before the transfer window closes.
