Manchester United are keeping tabs on Chelsea’s forward Christopher Nkunku, as the Blues consider a January swoop for United’s rising star Alejandro Garnacho.
Nkunku, who has netted an impressive 13 goals in as many starts this season, has struggled for Premier League opportunities under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
The French international has started just three league games, with most of his appearances limited to the Europa Conference League and domestic cup competitions. This lack of regular playing time has reportedly left the former RB Leipzig star unhappy at Stamford Bridge.
United, who showed interest in Nkunku last December, remain keen on the 27-year-old despite Bayern Munich also entering the race for his signature.
According to ESPN, Manchester United have asked to stay updated on Nkunku’s situation, with the player reportedly open to leaving Chelsea this month.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are exploring a potential bid for Alejandro Garnacho. The 19-year-old Argentine winger is considered one of United’s brightest prospects, but financial constraints at Old Trafford could force the club to entertain serious offers.
Chelsea are not alone in their interest, as Serie A champions Napoli are also monitoring Garnacho’s situation. However, the young talent reportedly prefers to remain in the Premier League.
United initially valued Garnacho at £70 million, a figure mirroring Chelsea’s asking price for Nkunku. With United struggling in attack—Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee combining for just five goals this season—strengthening their frontline remains a priority. Amad Diallo currently leads United’s scoring chart with a modest six goals.
Financial limitations have also forced United to prioritize a new wingback before the transfer window closes on February 3.
Talks are ongoing with Lecce over Denmark international Patrick Dorgu, with United submitting a £25 million bid, though Lecce holds out for £33.6 million.
In addition, United are set to offload Brazilian winger Antony, who is expected to join Real Betis on loan. Signed for £85 million from Ajax during Erik ten Hag’s first summer in charge, Antony has struggled for form over the past 18 months.
Real Betis are reportedly willing to cover most of Antony’s salary, providing United with some financial flexibility to navigate the remainder of the window.
As deadline day approaches, both United and Chelsea are poised to make bold moves that could reshape their squads for the second half of the season.
