Man United Star Labeled ‘Biggest Flop of the Season’ by Ex-England Striker

Former England striker Emile Heskey has called out Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, branding him the “biggest flop of the season.”

While the Red Devils struggle to climb out of 13th place in the Premier League table after 20 games, Heskey has expressed disappointment in Fernandes’ performances, despite some glimpses of brilliance.

United’s season has been a disaster, and few players have stood out. Fernandes, who once carried the team with his goal-scoring ability, has only netted six times in 28 appearances this season. His lack of consistency, combined with three red cards, has raised questions about his suitability as captain.

Heskey, speaking to Instant Casino, was blunt in his assessment of the Portuguese playmaker. “In seasons gone by, he’s been scoring goals and carrying the team,” Heskey said. “With the captain’s armband, you expect more.”

Though Fernandes impressed in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Heskey insists one good performance isn’t enough. “The minimum for any player is to run, tackle, and be aggressive,” he continued. “The captain has to set the standard and lead by example. Fernandes hasn’t done that consistently this season.”

Heskey admits United’s problems run deeper than any one player, describing the club’s season as a complete “capitulation.” He also highlighted the challenge facing new manager Ruben Amorim, who will need to steady the ship and rebuild the squad’s morale.

While Fernandes has struggled, Heskey singled out Amad Diallo as a rare bright spot in United’s campaign. The young forward has scored crucial goals, including an equalizer at Anfield and a late winner in the Manchester derby.

“I like Amad Diallo a lot,” Heskey said. “In a poor side, he’s been outstanding. He’s one of the few players Ruben Amorim can trust and rely on.”

Heskey also praised Diallo’s resilience, recalling an FA Cup performance last season where he excelled while fasting. “He stood up when the team needed him,” Heskey added. “He looks like a player United can build around in the future.”

With Manchester United’s season hanging in the balance, Amorim faces a tough task. The team has shown flashes of promise, like their draw against Liverpool, but consistency remains elusive.

As United prepare for the second half of the season, the spotlight will remain on Bruno Fernandes to prove he’s worthy of the captaincy. Meanwhile, the emergence of players like Diallo offers a glimmer of hope for the club’s future.
